This year's reunion is scheduled for July 26-28. We're planning to have the reunion here in Las Vegas. Joe and I should have most of our apartments vacant, and so we'll be able to house everyone who comes down (which we hope is everyone). These are our tentative plans:
Thursday--we figure most people will be traveling the first part of the day. Loose plans for Thursday night include the Bellagio fountains and garden, and snapping a family picture by the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
Friday--Lake Mead, boating and beach time.
Saturday--Misc. morning activities. Joshua's baptism is at three o'clock (we're excited to incorporate his baptism into our reunion). After the baptism we'll head back to Cory's for pool time and a barbecue. We'll also have our auction and meeting that evening.
If anyone has suggestions or problems, please let Jason or me know. Also, please remember to plan to bring items for our auction. I realize times are tough for everyone, but please also come prepared to participate in the auction so we can replenish our reunion fund.
We're super excited for the reunion. It is a blessing to all be together, even if it's only for a couple days.
Dates work well. For the day at Lake Mead I would suggest we try to rent a pontoon boat. I will have mine, but it only holds up to six people/825 pounds. Rentals aren't too bad, but prime summer time plus weekend one would need to be reserved in advance. What does everyone think of that? I think it would give us a lot more freedom at the lake. Holly has some brochures on pricing, but if I remember right a pontoon boat is about $325/day-500/day (depending on size) plus deposit, which I assume is refundable if all goes well. Since I'm not an organizer this year I won't push the issue, but would have everyone consider if it's reasonable from a cost stand point based on the number of people we'll have present. How many will we have total?
ReplyDeleteWe will be there (2 adults and 2 kids).
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the pontoon boat will have to be independent of the reunion fund since as of now $252 is all we have. Jayna and I would put money toward the pontoon boat if we have enough people to make it reasonable.
Dad and I will help with the pontoon boat. I think it makes a lot of sense. I'm excited for the reunion again, and hope everyone can be there. The time in Vegas will be different than anything we've done so far. Sounds great!
ReplyDeleteYes, I assumed the boat would be out of pocket expense, but if there were, say, twenty people it might not be so bad. I will leave it to the committee, but as a final statement I'll say the beaches at Lake Mead are pretty ugly, rocky, and blah. Things are much better out on the lake, in a cove, or . . . well, just in open water
ReplyDeleteI am tied up until Friday about noon, so we expect to arrive in Vegas late Friday afternoon. I don't know how late people will be on the lake, but if we miss that part, that's okay -- lake goers should not feel pressure to stay there late just for us. We're not in a great position to contribute $ to the boat rental anyway. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe are looking forward to it!
FYI: by late July it's reasonable to be on the lake into the late evening. Much will depend on if things are windy or not, but water temps should be upper 70's, lower 80's and sun usually sets around 8:30 or later. I'm sure all would welcome you out even if you're not in a situation to chip in on rental. Not sure we're renting one yet. That remains the domain of the planners this year.
ReplyDeletePlanners: might I suggest an email to everyone to get a definite on yea/nay on the boat rental since it would be prudent to reserve that earlier rather than later. Just my $0.02.
